Boro vow to keep Cats target

Sunderland, 10:24, November 16, 2009 ,

Sunderland's hopes of landing Adam Johnson have been hit by the news Middlesbrough are keen to keep hold of the winger.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has made Johnson one of his number one targets for when the January transfer window opens and has been linked with a £6million bid.
Boro would have some serious thinking to do if such an offer was made, especially considering he will be a free agent next summer, but as far as their boss Gordon Strachan is concerned, it is crucial they keep hold.
"Adam Johnson's record this season is phenomenal," Strachan revealed. "His record and the club's results run hand in hand. He's a terrific player. I am hoping that over time we gradually get to know each other.
"I don't think you can have a big conversation like that. I want to get to know him. All I can say is that since I've been here he's handled himself brilliantly."
