Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill may turn his attentions to Wolfsburg striker Patrick Helmes as he continues his search for a front man.
Their manager Felix Magath claims to have blocked a number of approaches from interested parties and West Brom are also said to be keen on the German international.
Magath expects to be able to keep the player who they have had for the past 18 months and he told Kicker-Sportmagazin: "We are not interested in transferring Patrick Helmes and a move is out of the question," Magath told Kicker-Sportmagazin.
"It's a fact that we have been receiving enquiries for his services, but I have turned all of them down."
O'Neill is keen to add to his squad and has made a striker his top priority, whether this leads to a direct approach for Helmes remains to be seen.
