Bruce prepares for hitman's arrival

Sunderland, 18:22, August 27, 2010 ,

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has revealed the club are close to signing a new striker, but refused to say who it was.

Kenwyne Jones was allowed to move to Stoke earlier in the summer and Bruce has now revealed the club are close to securing a deal for a replacement.
He said: "We are close to one. I believe the chairman is working extremely hard on that. It would certainly be a big addition for us if we could possibly make it happen.
"We are in discussions as we speak, but one thing I won't do is pay inflated prices, just crazy money.
"I won't make that step. If it's right, then great, but we have also got to make sure we get the right business done."
Bruce may be hesitant to mention any names but it has been suggested that either West Ham's Carlton Cole or Ghana international Asamoah Gyan could be making a move to the Stadium of Light before Tuesday's transfer deadline.
