Cats stopper hurt in cup win

Sunderland, 12:18, September 24, 2008 ,

Nyron Nosworthy is a doubt for the trip to Aston Villa after suffering a hamstring injury in Sunderland's win against Northampton.

The central defender was forced to limp out of the Carling Cup third round tie at the Stadium of Light with 10 minutes of normal time remaining due to the problem. His absence meant the Black Cats had to play all of extra time with ten men because boss Roy Keane had already made all of his substitutions.
The club's medical staff will assess the injury on Wednesday before deciding how severe it is and if it will keep Nosworthy sidelined for a period of time. At the moment the former Gillingham man appears unlikely to be able to line up at Villa Park this weekend.
Therefore Keane must make a decision on who will take Nosworthy's place in the side alongside £8million man Anton Ferdinand as they prepare to face Villa's dangerous attacking pairing of John Carew and Gabriel Agbonlahor.
