Sunderland are poised to win the race for the loan signature of Manchester City striker John Guidetti, according to a report in Italy.

Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill is desperate to strengthen his attack at the Stadium of Light this summer and has already been linked with a swoop for the young Swedish forward, who has already been likened to his fellow international compatriot Zlatan Ibrahimovic, earlier in the transfer window. Guidetti has alerted a number of clubs following his highly successful spell with Dutch Eredivisie club Feyenoord last season, where he scored 20 goals in just 23 appearances. And, while Italian giants Lazio have been heavily linked with a swoop and the player admitted an interest in moving to Serie A, a report in the Italian media claims it is Sunderland who will take him in a loan deal worth around £1.5million with a view to a £6.5million permanent deal next summer. That would also suit Sunderland down to the ground as it will give O'Neill more cash to spend during this transfer window as he continues to be linked with Wolves £10million-rated hitman Steven Fletcher.
