Defender deal hope

Sunderland, 16:43, October 21, 2009

Sunderland have offered Nyron Nosworthy a new contract and hope he will put pen to paper this week.

Nosworthy has struggled for a regular place in the starting line up this season but he is still a key part of the Black Cats squad and Bruce is keen to tie him down for another two years.
"Nyron's been offered a new contract and I hope he will sign it within the next few days," he revealed. "I'll be delighted if he signs, because I think he has still got a role to play for us. He's well thought of here, a popular lad and we like him. He's a good player.
"At the weekend against Liverpool, when I had to make changes, I considered bringing Nuggsy on and the only thing that stopped me doing that was the fact that he hasn't played much football of late.
"But he is a very good player to have in your squad and he's got a great attitude."
