Defender to snub Black Cats

Sunderland look set to miss out on Real Mallorca defender Ivan Ramis after it was revealed that Wigan are favourites to sign him.

Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill is looking to add to his squad and the 27-year-old is an experienced campaigner in La Liga so is a wanted man but Wigan appear to be the favourites. Everton, Aston Villa and Celtic are also in the hunt to sign him but sources close to the player, which usually means their agents, say Wigan is the likely destination. "We are convinced he will end up at Wigan," they are reported to have told Skysports. Whilst O'Neill is keen to add to his whole squad he has confirmed this week that strikers are his main targets at the moment.
