Defender worry for Black Cats

Sunderland, 12:18, September 9, 2008 ,

Sunderland are sweating on the fitness of George McCartney who has picked up a hamstring strain on international duty.

Sunderland's latest new signing picked up the knock while playing for Northern Ireland in the defeat by Slovakia on Saturday and is now a big doubt for Wednesday's game against the Czech Republic.
McCartney was forced to sit out training on Monday and Ireland boss Nigel Worthington said: "George has tightness of the hamstring and is having intensive treatment and rest."
Keane would rather him miss out against the Czech's altogether and will no doubt have expressed his concern to Worthington.
