Fans set for bigger role
Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet is expecting the crowd to play a bigger part than usual in the forthcoming derby with Newcastle.
The arch rivals have an excellent record at the Stadium of Light, just one defeat coming back in 2008, but Mignolet believes that is about to change.
The Belgium ace believes the rejigging of the stadium will help as away fans have been moved from behind the goal to up in the Gods in the north west corner, meaning home fans surround the pitch.
"It will be tight and the supporters will be behind us so hopefully we can get a good result again," Mignolet told the club's website.
"In the home games we've played we've felt the difference in comparison with last season. At both ends the home fans are behind us now and that can only help us in getting more points at home."
