Halford set for Wearside departure

Sunderland, 10:08, July 3, 2009 ,

Greg Halford is set to end his disappointing spell at Sunderland by making a £2million switch to Premier League new boys Wolves.

The 24-year-old joined the Black Cats in a £3million deal from Reading in summer 2007 to become former boss Roy Keane's first signing as a Premier League manager. However Halford made just nine appearances for the club, all at right-back, in which time he was sent off on two occasions.
The former Colchester stopper has spent time on loan at Charlton and Sheffield United during his time on Wearside and looked on course to make a permanent switch to the Blades this summer after a successful season-long loan. However Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has moved to offer Halford a chance to resurrect his career in the Premier League.
