Lucky Black Cats blasted by boss
Sunderland, 12:17, September 24, 2008 ,
Sunderland were described as a 'shambles' after they scraped past Northampton Town on penalties in Tuesday's Carling Cup home tie.
Boss Roy Keane was livid after witnessing his side go two-down against the struggling League One outfit at the Stadium of Light. However two Anthony Stokes goals in the final four minutes took the game to extra time, before the Premier League outfit progressed to the fourth round 4-3 on spot kicks.
Despite eventually going through, Keane was in no mood to celebrate afterwards as he chose to hit out at his side's shabby performance.
"We need to start better and realise we are nowhere near good enough just to turn up and think we will beat opposition," he said. "We were not prepared to run, not prepared to make tackles and there was no desire."
Keane also had a dig at the home faithful as he added: "There was poor attitude, both from the players and the supporters, and it was disappointing.
"It was probably one of the worst and longest nights I have ever had in my football career. It was a shambles."
