Midfielder bid thrown out
Sunderland, 13:02, July 14, 2009 ,
Wigan have rejected a second bid of £6million from Sunderland for England Under-21 midfielder Lee Cattermole.
The former Middlesbrough starlet was the subject of an improved offer from his former Wigan boss Steve Bruce, but Latics manager Roberto Martinez has stressed again that he has no intention of selling him.
Martinez restated his stance of last week and said: "Lee is not for sale - end of story.
"He is a fantastic player, a leader on and off the field, and he is central to our plans going forwards. We are not interested in selling him."
However, Bruce seems determined to land the player and is expected to make one final improved offer in the hope Martinez will have a change of heart and decide to sell.
