Midfielder deal closer
Steve Bruce is winning the race to sign Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari and talks are set for this weekend.
Bruce looks likely to beat Liverpool and Spurs to the signature of the player, who had a successful spell in the Premier League with Portsmouth three years ago and is now available to return.
He has handed in a transfer request in Italy where he appears to be well down the pecking order after falling out with successive Nerazzurri coaches Rafael Benitez and Leonardo.
Sunderland want him to join Ghana team-mates Asamoah Gyan and John Mensah at the Stadium of Light and a move looks likely to be completed over the weekend.
