Midfielder to miss remainder of season

Sunderland, 11:41, April 28, 2010 ,

Sunderland have confirmed that Andy Reid has undergone an operation on a calf injury and will miss the rest of the season.

The 27-year-old went under the knife on Tuesday in order to correct the calf problem which was a by product of the hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined since February.
Reid has had to endure a stop start season because of injuries, although Black Cats manager Steve Bruce is now hopeful the Republic of Ireland international will enjoy a better campaign next time around after having the operation.
"Andy has had a calf problem and unfortunately an operation proved to be the best way forward," said Bruce.
"All being well, he should be back in time for the start of pre-season training in July."
