Sunderland are reportedly in the running to hijack Liverpool's move to sign Fulham's American forward Clint Dempsey.
The 29-year-old seems destined to leave Craven Cottage before the close of the transfer window on Friday with relations between Dempsey and his manager Martin Jol known to be strained.
It's even been suggested that Jol is no longer on speaking terms with the USA international, who has made it clear over the summer months of his desire to leave the Cottagers after five years with the club, and Liverpool have long been his preferred destination.
However, talkSPORT are now suggesting that the Black Cats have entered the race to sign him as Martin O'Neill continues his overhaul at the squad at the Stadium of Light.
O'Neill has recently spent more than £20m iin the last few days to bring in Steven Fletcher from Wolves and Adam Johnson from Manchester City, but he would dearly like to land Dempsey as well.
