Sunderland and Ireland defender John O'Shea could be a doubt for this summer's Euro 2012 finals according to his boss Martin O'Neill.
The 31-year-old aggravated a calf injury late in the first half of the Black Cats' 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, and O'Neill is fearful it may cost his place with the national team in Poland and Ukraine.
O'Shea will now be hoping the club's medical team can give him the necessary treatment to boost his chances of being involved in his country's first major tournament in ten years.
O'Neill said: "John didn't feel comfortable. He has come back and he was starting to feel his injury, so he just didn't feel confident at all about moving on it.
Asked if that could jeopardise his chances of representing the Republic this summer, O'Neill added: "It might do.
"As he came off, that was my thought, that there might be a concern about it.
"I haven't had a chance to check with the physios since that. Maybe I am jumping the gun, but it might be a concern."
