Quinn targets defender move
Sunderland, 14:08, July 7, 2009 ,
Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has admitted the Black Cats are keen on signing Manchester City captain Richard Dunne.
With City boss Mark Hughes chasing a high-profile defensive capture this summer, it is understood Dunne could leave Eastlands and Sunderland are one of several clubs chasing his signature.
Following May's takeover at the Stadium of Light, Steve Bruce has major funds to spend in the transfer market and the Republic of Ireland international is high on his wanted list.
Quinn revealed to the Daily Mail: "He is a player who is an excellent footballer but he is a Man City player until they say any different and we stand in a line.
"We are not the only admirers but if there is a chink of light we will get through it if we can. We probably need a few men and spirited people to lift what we have and of course Richard Dunne would fit the bill."
