Sunderland could be boosted by the return to action of defender Nyron Nosworthy and midfielder Teemu Tainio by the end of February.
The Black Cats have been without the services of Nosworthy for the past five games due to a hamstring injury, but he has featured in some light training sessions this week and the club are confident of him being back in action within two weeks.
Nosworthy will face a battle to get back into the side as the club have moved seven points clear of the relegation zone with seven points from the past three games with Anton Ferdinand and Danny Collins striking up a solid partnership in central defence.
However, to have him available will be a timely boost for boss Ricky Sbragia.
He told the club's website: "He's doing some light work and he could be rejoining us next week, so we're pleased with that one."
Meanwhile Finnish midfielder, Tainio, is also looking to make a return to action after missing the past three games with a knee injury which also forced him out of his country's national team this week.
"We have to be careful with Teemu, he did not want to risk it," added Sbragia.
