Striker deal almost done

Sunderland hope to have the signing of Steven Fletcher completed in time for him to line up against Reading on Saturday.

Martin O'Neill's top summer target is travelling up to Sunderland on Thursday after the Black Cats and Wolves finally agreed a fee for the Scottish international, thought to be £12m, on Wednesday. Fletcher will undergo a medical and then discuss personal terms at the club but no problems are foreseen on either front and the hope is he will be in a Sunderland shirt for Saturday's clash with the newly promoted Royals at the Stadium of Light. O'Neill will now concentrate on landing his other targets in the final week of the transfer window.
