Sunderland complete managerial appointment

Sunderland, 16:59, June 3, 2009 ,

Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has confirmed Steve Bruce will be leaving Wigan and taking over as the new Black Cats manager.

The announcement by Quinn brings to an end days of speculation about Bruce's future, who will now take up the challenge of establishing the Wearsiders as a top ten club.
Bruce has agreed a three year deal with the club and is joined at the Stadium of Light by his coaches Eric Black, Nigel Spink and Keith Bertschin, who have all agreed to follow him from Wigan.
Quinn says he believes Bruce will take Sunderland forward as a club and hopes he can lift them up to where he believes the Black Cats deserve to be.
"Steve will bring a professionalism and strength of character to this club that will really help to bring us forward to where we all want to be," said Quinn.
"He knows more than anyone what football means to people of this region and I'm confident that he will be able to instill into our players exactly what it means to play for this football club."
