Sunderland target staying put

Sunderland, 13:25, September 16, 2008 ,

West Ham striker Carlton Cole has decided to snub Sunderland and stay at Upton Park - because of new boss Gianfranco Zola.

The 24-year-old striker was reportedly a target for Sunderland boss Roy Keane who was set to make a £5million move in January for the player, but it now seems Cole is happy to stay at the Hammers.
Speaking to the Daily Star Cole said: "He (Zola) wants to put his style of play and all of his experiences into how we play and these are exciting times for West Ham United.
"I've got so much respect for him.
"I'm not licking his bum, I'm just saying everyone knows he's a model pro. I don't see his lack of managerial experience a risk, he's been through all levels and I think he'll do a great job here."
