Teenage stars handed Sunderland chance

Sunderland, 15:14, June 25, 2009 ,

Sunderland are to take a look at eight young hopefuls in an attempt to uncover some of the stars of the future from the Caribbean.

The Black Cats will once again take part in the Kick Start Clinic programme, with eight under-16's due to head to the Academy of Light in September to show their credentials.
Chairman Niall Quinn has high hopes, saying: "The footballers that trained with us last year showed great talent and I understand their football careers have gone from strength to strength over the last 12 months."
Former Jamaica boss John Barnes helped select the eight heading to Wearside and also feels they could have an impact in England.
Barnes said: "I believe the eight footballers I have selected have the right amount of talent, desire and ambition to make it as professional players."
