Defender shocked to be left out

Swansea City, 11:58, January 21, 2010 ,

Swansea centre-half Ashley Williams says he was shocked to be left out of the side last week but has vowed to redouble his efforts.

The Wales skipper was left out of the side by boss Paulo Sousa for the win over Leicester last weekend and he admits his admission did come as a shock as it was the first time he had missed a league game since the Swans clinched the League One title at Brighton in May 2008.
"I played every minute last year and I wanted to try to do likewise this season," said Williams.
"It was a shock. The manager explained his reasons to me the day before the game and that should remain between me and him.
"He is the manager and he has to pick the team he thinks is best for that game. He thought that was the right team, and the main thing is that we won."
