Swansea are thought to be the mystery Premier League club to have tabled an insufficient bid for Real Mallorca defender Ivan Ramis.
Mallorca vice-president Lorenzo Serra Ferrer confirmed yesterday that an offer had been received from an un-named Premier League club for the 27-year-old centre back, whose contract expires in 2015.
He said: "I've received an offer from the representative of a Premier League club but we are quite far apart."
Swansea boss Michael Laudrup worked with Ramis during his brief stay at the club and he looks to be the most likely bidder at the moment.
But Wigan boss Martinez knows all about Ramis, who has also been linked to Aston Villa, Sunderland and QPR, and is keen to strengthen his squad depth for the new season.
