Skipper doubtful for Toon test

Swansea City, 13:10, November 27, 2009 ,

Swansea captain Garry Monk looks likely to sit out the Swans' first league tie with Newcastle in over 25 years with a calf injury.

The injury has kept Monk sidelined for Swansea's last two fixtures, should he fail to recover in time for the trip to St James' Park Federico Bessone will continue to deputise in his absence.
Stephen Dobbie has been ruled out with an ankle problem, while a hamstring injury is expected to see Mark Gower join him on the sidelines for the trip to the league leaders.
On-loan winger David Cotterill is expected to take a place on the substitutes bench, the 21-year-old is likely to make the switch from Sheffield United permanent when the transfer window opens in January.
The Swans head into this fixture unbeaten in their last 11 games, it is the first time Newcastle and Swansea have faced each other in a league match since 1983.
