Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has played down speculation linking the club with a swoop for Newcastle winger Gabriel Obertan.

Laudrup has revealed he is closing in on two new players and reports have claimed that one of them could be the former Manchester United star, who only joined the Magpies last summer. Obertan struggled for form and lost his place to Hatem Ben Arfa and he may find it difficult to force his way back into the first team in the forthcoming campaign. Swansea could offer the Frenchman a route out but Laudrup has refused to say too much about a possible deal. "I can only say this. Speculation about players coming in, I don't want to comment on that," he revealed. "It is better for me to say I don't comment on rumours, I can comment on things about our players as it is different. "When something is near or is done then you can ask me all you want." Valencia's Pablo Hernandez and Hannover's Didier Ya Konan have also been mentioned as targets but much will also depend on whether Joe Allen leaves the Liberty Stadium.
