Di Canio hands Materazzi trial

Swindon have handed a trial to Italian defender Simone Materazzi on the recommendation of former Lazio boss Paolo Negro.

The 20-year-old is brother of former Italy international and Inter Milan star Marco and has linked up with Paolo Di Canio's squad at their training camp in Lake Garda.
Di Canio invited a host of players for trials last summer, but has adapted a more methodical approach this time around.
"He played last year at Conference level in Italy. We will check on him - it doesn't cost us anything," Di Canio told BBC Wiltshire.
"He (Negro) mentioned his name, not because he is Materazzi's brother, but because he's a young lad who wants to learn and improve.
"I believe in Paolo Negro, although it's not a promise but I say let me check."
