Azarenka ousts Barthel in Melbourne
Victoria Azarenka is into the fourth round of the Australia Open despite an outburst at a line judge during her win over Mona Barthel.
The third seed was the subject of boos on the Hisense Arena at match point after launching into a furious tirade against a line judge when she couldn't put her German opponent away.
The Belarusian ace eventually got the better of Barthel 6-2 6-4 to move into the next round but admitted she had become annoyed at her failure to win the match sooner.
"I think I have been playing pretty good but I was not brave enough to finish the match. I had to get a little p***** off," said Azarenka.
Azarenka will face Iveta Benesova in the next round after the Czech had made light work of Russian qualifier Nina Bratchikova 6-1 6-3.
Also through to the fourth round is world number one Caroline Wozniacki after she destroyed Monica Niculescu 6-2 6-2 to set up an encounter with 13th seed Jelena Jankovic.
Former world number one Jankovic recorded a comfortable victory over Christina McHale to reach the next round.
