Nadal sets comeback date

Men's Tennis, Last updated:

Former world number one Rafael Nadal will make his long awaited comeback at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in December.

Nadal has not played since his shock second round exit at Wimbledon in June due to ongoing problems with tendinitis in his knee.
The Spanish star had initially hoped to make his return at the ATP World Tour Finals earlier this month, but Nadal failed to recover in time for the end-of-season showpiece.
However, Nadal has now returned to the practice court and has been entered into the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Dhoa, which begins on December 31 - the opening week of the new ATP season.
Nadal is also set for a practice match in Abu Dhabi prior to his competitive return and will face either Britain's number one Andy Murray or Janko Tipsarevic on December 28.
Due to his prolonged absence from tennis Nadal has dropped to number four in the world rankings and the 26-year-old will be keen to impress in Dhoa as he prepares for the first Grand Slam event of 2013, the Australian Open in Melbourne.
