Djokovic ends Nadal run

Tennis, 15:22, August 3, 2008

Novak Djokovic sensationally ended Rafael Nadal's unbeaten streak to earn a place in the Cincinatti Masters' final.

The Serbian third seed ripped the Spaniard apart in the first set and although he was pushed a lot harder in the second, eventually booked his progression in straight sets, winning 6-1 7-5.
The defeat has seen Nadal's winning streak ended after 32 matches, including French Open and Wimbledon titles, and has delayed his move to the top of the world rankings - he will now replace Roger Federer at the summit on August 18.
Djokovic took less than half an hour to win the first set, breaking Nadal twice to race in to a 5-0 lead before serving out.
The second was a tighter affair with Nadal, who had come into the match suffering from blisters, putting pressure on his opponent's serve but ultimately failing to make the breakthrough.
The world number three though did manage to claim another break in the 11th game of the match, going on to close out the match on his own serve.
Djokovic, who improved his record to 4-9 against Nadal with the win with all four victories coming on hard courts, said: "No-one is unbeatable but the way he was playing we all thought he's not going to lose any time soon.
"I tried not to think of his winning streak and what his new ranking spot will be. I tried just to focus on my game.
"It was my intention to have a fast start and to step in and go for it. And in the second set I just tried to stay with him."
