Juan Martin del Potro admitted nerves almost cost him his fourth successive tournament victory at the Legg Mason Classic.
The in-form Argentine squandered three match points as he served for the title but prevailed to beat Serbia's Viktor Troicki 6-3 6-3, adding the Washington crown to wins in Stuttgart, Kitzbuhel and Los Angeles.
The teenager, ranked No.19 in the world, has won 19 straight matches and 37 of his last 39 sets, but felt going into the match as favourite had weighed on his mind.
"Today I was very, very nervous because I was the favourite to win the tournament," he said.
"In a final, if you play your best you can win, for sure, but I think today I played more with my mind than my body."
