Gonzalez through to gold medal match

Tennis, 13:20, August 15, 2008

Chile's Fernando Gonzalez saved three match points against America's James Blake before coming back to win 4-6 7-5 11-9.

Gonzalez will now face either Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal in the gold medal match as he looks to improve on the bronze medal he took at Athens in 2004 in the men's singles competition to go with the gold he won in the men's doubles with partner Nicolas Massu.
Blake, who overcame Roger Federer in the previous round, had three match points in the deciding set at 6-5 but failed to take advantage of the situation.
There was very little to chose between the two, with Gonzalez claiming a decisive break, the first time either man had dropped his serve in the set, to move 10-9 ahead before taking the match with his fourth match point.
