Andy Murray remained positive despite losing in three sets to Radek Stepanek in the third round of the Paris Masters on Thursday.
The 22-year-old came through a gruelling match with James Blake just 16 hours previously on Wednesday night and fatigue was a major factor in his 6-1 3-6 4-6 defeat to the Czech Republic star.
The British number one showed little signs of things to come when he raced to the first set for the loss of just one game but then his opponent upped his game and the Scot's level dropped off as he tired in the second and third sets.
Despite his obvious fatigue, Murray refused to blame his schedule for the loss to a man he had beaten on their three previous meetings.
"I said last night it was going to be difficult to come back and feel 100%," he said. "It's obviously limited recovery after a long match. But you still come out and you try to give it your best shot. It wasn't good enough."
And the 2008 US Open finalist was pleased with his work over the past fortnight as the payers now head to London for the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals.
"It's obviously a long, long season," he added to Radio 5 live. "The last couple of weeks were important but it's not always about results, it's not always about winning, especially when you're coming back from injury.
"You want to get match fit and make sure your injury has cleared up, which it has.
"I won the tournament last week and played a couple of matches here too, so the preparation for London has been perfect, it's been exactly what I needed, and I'm not going to dwell on the loss of that match."
