Murray insists Fed still playing great

Andy Murray believes it is the other players on the circuit that has led to Roger Federer's apparent loss of form.

The Swiss ace lost his 237-week tenure as the world's number one to Rafael Nadal last week after enduring a disappointing season so far, by his standards, in which he has lost both his Australian Open and Wimbledon titles.
However, Murray believes that Federer is still playing great tennis - he lost in the final at both Roland Garros and SW19 as well as making the semi-finals in Melbourne - but that the rest of the players have been forced to step up their game in order to try and match him.
"It happens in all sports when someone sets the bar that high," the British number one said.
"That's not going to happen straight away but over three, four, five years, guys have caught up and realised that's the level they're going to have to get to if they want to be competing for grand slams and I think this year has been the time.
"I still think Federer is playing great tennis, but I think just the mindset of the other players has changed because he's lost more this year than he has in the past."
Federer was a comfortable first-round winner at Flushing Meadows as he goes for his fifth successive US Open title and faces Brazil's Thiago Alves in round two, while Murray's next opponent is France's Michael Llodra.
