Murray pushed all the way

Tennis, 11:47, August 31, 2008

Andy Murray had to fight hard but eventually overcame Jurgen Melzer 6-7 (5-7) 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 6-3 at the US Open.

The British number one seeded six was just two points from being put out in the third round before he fought back to edge a third-set tie-break and then blitz his opponent in the final two sets.
Murray looked highly frustrated during the encounter until he finally managed to find his rhythm towards the end of the match when his superior fitness told.
"He was playing awesome, hitting the ball so hard and flat," said Murray afterwards. "It was so tough for me to get a rhythm, but I felt after the third set, the momentum was with me.
"My fitness is something I've worked so hard on. Ideally, you'd rather not play matches of that length, but sometimes it happens. You've got to get through it."
The Scot will now take on tenth seed Stanislas Wawrinka in the last 16.
