Laura Robson admitted she was not at her best after losing the Australian Open girls' final in straight sets to Karolina Pliskova.
The 16-year-old rising star of British tennis had dropped just one set before the final but she went down 6-1 7-6 (7-5) to the Czech Republic youngster - the twin sister of Kristyna Pliskova, who she beat in the semi-final.
Robson was favourite to win the title, after losing out at the same stage of the tournament 12 months ago, but she came up short, with a disappointing display that included 31 unforced errors.
The first set was a one-sided affair with Robson unable to lift her game for the occasion but she rallied in the second set and led the tie-break 4-1 before Pliskova roared back to force match point - on which the Brit double-faulted.
The Wimbledon resident admitted that she became frustrated in the first set and never really recovered mentally throughout the match.
"I wasn't really nervous I was just not quick off the mark and she took advantage of that," she said. "In the first set I didn't play well so I started getting a bit annoyed with that.
"I tried to make a new start in the second set and I wasn't going to be able to do that with the mindset I had in the first set.
"But she served really well in the whole match so I was just looking for a chance to break her and I finally got one and then in the tie-break I let myself down a bit.
"I didn't hit any double faults until the tie-break so at that point I just lost focus."
Despite the defeat, Robson was content with the way her game has progressed during her time Down Under, as she reached the final of the Hopman Cup in partnership with Andy Murray, while progressing to the quarter-finals of the women's doubles at Melbourne Park.
"I'm tired, but I've had a really good month in Australia so I can go home happy," she added. "I've played a lot of matches and so it's just good to go home."
