Andy Murray has crashed out of the Olympic tennis tournament after a shock first round defeat against Taiwan's Yen-Hsun Lu.
The Scot and Britain's number one seed was confident of getting amongst the medals in both the singles and doubles at Beijing, but his singles dream is over before it really got started.
Murray blew two break advantages in the opening set to the world number 77, who hit his shots with much more accuracy and purpose as he opened up a lead of 7-6 (7-5) 2-0 before rain delayed play.
He did break back to make it 2-2 on the return to action, but his opponent kept his nerve to eventually take the second set 6-4 and dump Murray out in the opening round.
Murray must now turn all of his attentions to the doubles alongside his brother Jamie with their first round tie due to take place later on Monday.
Meanwhile Rafael Nadal progressed to the second round following a hard fought 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win against Potito Starace of Italy. Top seed Roger Federer started his bid for a first Olympic medal by beating Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 6-2.
