Top seed Ivanovic pushed all the way

Top seed Ana Ivanovic survived a scare at the US Open to edge past Russia's Vera Dushevina 6-1 4-6 6-4.

The French Open champion, playing her first match since a thumb injury forced her to withdraw from the Olympics, looked to be cruising through to the second round after racing through the first set 6-1 and opening up a 4-2 lead in the second.
The world number one though lost her game plan with Dushevina reeling off four games on the bounce to force a decider.
However, Ivanovic, who has never passed the fourth round at Flushing Meadows, was able to recover and edge the final set and book her progression in just over two hours.
"Just to be here and be able to compete is a great achievement," Ivanovic said. "I could feel in some shots a lack of practice, and even shot selection.
"But my experience and calm helped me, and something I'll have to rely on because I haven't had as good a preparation as I hoped for."
