Black Cats' Dawson interest cools

Tottenham Hotspur, 12:40, December 23, 2009 ,

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is unlikely to make a January transfer window move for Spurs defender Michael Dawson.

Dawson has been heavily linked with a switch to the Stadium of Light in the New Year after the Black Cats failed to land the centre-back last summer.
But Bruce, who is also keeping an eye on Robbie Keane's situation at White Hart Lane, says it will be very difficult to add quality players to his squad next month and has distanced himself from a bid for Dawson.
"Teams do not want to lose their players in January and we only want players who are going to come in and improve the team," he told The Journal.
"I'm also not going to pay over the odds in January just so I can bring someone in. For instance, there are a few people out there with six months to go on their contract, so if there's a decent deal to be done, we'll have a look and analyse it.
"I'm sure everybody would like to strengthen."
