Tottenham have reportedly agreed an £8m fee with Newcastle for centre-half Sebastian Bassong.
The 23-year-old former France Under-21 international was one of the Magpies' best players last season and was linked with Spurs at the weekend.
White Hart Lane chief Harry Redknapp needs defensive reinforcements because of injuries to Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson, while captain Ledley King also has ongoing knee issues.
Newcastle signed Bassong from Metz for £500,000 last summer so will make a decent profit on the defender.
