Duo in race to face Hammers

Tottenham Hotspur, 10:14, December 8, 2008

Ledley King and Luka Modric will be given as long as possible to prove their fitness ahead of Tottenham's trip to West Ham on Monday.

Skipper and defender King is still battling to overcome his problematic knee injury which has dogged him on and off for several years, while Croatian international midfield playmaker Modric is looking to shake off the groin injury which has sidelined him for the past two weeks.

Boss Harry Redknapp will wait until as late as possible to decide whether to risk one or both players as Spurs travel to face his former club at Upton Park in the Premier League.

Meanwhile King has admitted his personal frustration at not being able to play as much football as he would like due to his injury problems.

"I have had injury setbacks throughout my career," King told Setanta Sports News. "I would be lying if I said it didn't affect me.

"I want to play, I am a footballer and it has been tough away from the training ground.

"It can sometimes have an effect on your life when you want to do the thing you love but can't."
