New arrival puts question mark over duo's future

Tottenham Hotspur, 10:52, August 7, 2009 ,

Harry Redknapp has captured Newcastle defender Sebastien Bassong in an £8million deal, which puts the future of other players in doubt.

The Spurs boss has been eager to add to his defence due to injuries to Jonathan Woodgate, Michael Dawson and Ledley King, which could see all three miss the start of the season.
He has now secured a deal for Sebastien Bassong following a successful medical with the club.
Aston Villa and Manchester City had also been credited with an interest in Bassong but Redknapp has beaten off the competition as he continues to build his Spurs side.
However, Bassong's arrival at White Hart Lane may clear the way for Dawson, thought to be a Sunderland target, and Tom Huddlestone, deemed to be surplus to requirements by Redknapp, to leave the club.
It had been thought Redknapp would keep hold of Huddlestone to provide defensive cover if he had failed to find a defender but the Spurs boss is now expected to cash in on the versatile midfielder.
