Striker reveals Spurs and City interest
Tottenham Hotspur, 13:43, January 3, 2009 ,
Unsettled Bayern Munich striker Lukas Podolski has confirmed that both Manchester City and Tottenham are interested in his signature.
The Polish-born striker, 23, has been frozen out of the first-team picture at the Allianz Arena for most of this season and admits he is no longer happy to sit on the bench.
Speaking to German magazine Bunte, Podolski revealed interest from City, Spurs, Serie A outfit Roma and a number of top Bundesliga clubs.
"I need to play, I cannot continue to sit on the bench. I'm just not happy in Munich anymore," Podolski confirmed.
"I think it is time for me to leave Bayern so that I can do my job, which is playing football. I feel ready for an experience overseas and that of course includes Italy.
"I know Roma are interested, but so are several other sides. In Germany the likes of Hamburg, Cologne, Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund. In England I'm of interest to Manchester City and Tottenham."
Bayern Munich do not need to sell him and may only deal with a club who can make them an offer which is too good to refuse - theoretically that puts Mark Hughes in the driving seat - although he is thought to prefer ex-Bayern striker Roque Santa Cruz.
Podolski says money would not be the biggest factor in his decision and suggested the size of the club would be a factor in his decision.
"My choice will be purely a sporting one, so money won't make me change my mind. My only desire is to play football, preferably for a big club," he said.
