Wages to scupper striker move

Tottenham Hotspur, 14:05, May 15, 2008

Tottenham's bid to sign Samuel Eto'o could end in failure because the two parties are about £40,000 a week apart in wage negotiations.

Eto'o looks set to leave the Nou Camp this summer and Spurs boss Juande Ramos is keen to lure him to White Hart Lane as Dimitar Berbatov's future remains shrouded in doubt.

However, the Cameroon international's wage demands are proving to be a huge stumbling block and could cause the deal to fall through.

Spurs have been warned that Eto'o is looking for around £100,000 a week to move to north London but they currently have a wage ceiling of £60,000 a week.

It would now appear that the only way a deal will get done is if they find a sponsor to pick up the tab for the shortfall.
