Tottenham winger David Bentley is looking to get his career on track with a move away from Spurs but Reading have turned him down.
The 27-year-old has failed to make an impact at White Hart Lane since signing from Blackburn Rovers in 2008 for £15million and reports had claimed that the Royals could offer him a lifeline.
However Reading boss Brian McDermott is not interested and told the player's agent so when he was sounded out about a possible switch to the Madejski Stadium.
Despite the arrival of Andre Villas-Boas at Tottenham, it is thought Bentley does not have a future at the club, but a move to Reading appears to be out of the question.
McDermott says the cheque book is closed for now but if he does move into the transfer market again it will be for another out-and-out striker, not a midfielder.
