Battle on for defender

Tottenham could miss out on the signing of Valencia right-back Miguel, who is being linked with a £5m move to Aston Villa.

Spurs and Villa are battling it out for the signature of the 29-year-old Portugal international, but reports in Spain claim that Villa have won the race to sign him.
Miguel, who is the understudy to Chelsea's Jose Bosingwa in the national side, has been a revelation in La Liga since joining Valencia from Benfica and move to the Premiership has been mooted.
The right-back wants to try his luck in the Premier League and if reports in the Spanish press are to be believed, he could be turning out in a Villa shirt next season.
