Michael Dawson has admitted Robbie Keane is the right man to captain Tottenham out of relegation danger in the absence of Ledley King.
The central defender has spoken out about the Republic of Ireland striker's credentials after Spurs boss Harry Redknapp handed him the skipper's armband for his first game back at White Hart Lane - following his deadline day return from Liverpool - in Sunday's 0-0 draw against Arsenal.
Dawson, who has been given the captaincy along with Jonathan Woodgate and Jermaine Jenas this season, felt Keane's influence helped the team greatly and backed him to keep the job when King is unable to feature.
He said: "I believe whoever leads us out leads by example and Robbie did that.
"But when you cross that line there are 11 players out and everyone has to lead by example.
"You know that Keano is very vocal and he encourages people if they need to be told."
Dawson also hailed the display of £15million midfielder Wilson Palacios, who made his home debut against the Gunners after joining from Wigan.
He added: Wilson was fantastic. I stood behind him and he took a lot of pressure off us.
"He was winning balls and they were not really getting to us too often. That was down to Wilson and the rest of the boys in midfield."
