Roma and Stuttgart have an interest in Spurs striker Roman Pavlyuchenko but his agent has denied claims he is set to leave the Lane.
Oleg Artemov had been quoted as saying "I am busy with the search for a new club for Roman" but he has since backtracked and claimed his comments have been mis-translated.
However, there is mounting interest in the Russia international who failed to reproduce his best form last season after arriving from Spartak Moscow for £14m.
Artemov told Sport Express: "I was astonished to read the outcry on the internet as a result of the alleged interview I gave to The Daily Mirror.
"In fact, it was a loose translation of my comments to the newspaper Izvestia and the words were taken out of context. I am looking at Roman's options, but that is the regular, daily work of any agent - trying to get the best for the player.
"Roma and Stuttgart have made some early steps towards the signing, but there have been no specific offers or negotiations as yet.
"Besides, Roman wants to play in London and is looking to prove that he can be an asset for Tottenham."
