Strike target on verge of move

Tottenham, 12:51, June 25, 2009

Djibril Cisse, a reported summer target for Tottenham, is on the verge of joining Greek side Panathinaikos from Marseille.

The French international striker spent much of last season on loan at Sunderland and despite the Black Cats deciding against a permanent deal, it looked likely he would stay in England.
Spurs and Stoke expressed an interest, with Cisse saying he would be keen on a move to the Lane, but it looks like Athens will be the next destination for the ex-Liverpool forward.
Speaking about the 27-year-old, Panathinaikos's president Nikolas Pateras admitted that his club had agreed a fee with Marseille, believed to be around £6.5million.
Pateras said: "It's a year that we've been interested in Cisse. There's nothing left but for him to sign.
"We reached an agreement with Marseille, the player is coming with his wife and will stay two to three days in Greece and, if everything goes well, he will be a Panathinaikos player."
