Harry Redknapp is stepping up his search for a winger after Arjen Robben announced he had rejected the chance to join Spurs.
Redknapp had targeted Robben or Joe Cole to provide the width and crosses for his strikeforce next season, but neither player looks likely to be arriving at White Hart Lane this summer.
While Cole battles back from another injury setback which is set to keep him out for the start of the season, Real Madrid star Robben says he is prepared to stay and fight for his place at the Bernabeu.
The 28-year-old Dutchman was among a number of players on a list circulated by the Spanish giants to potential buyers after their world-record outlay on Cristiano Ronaldo.
Spurs were interested but Robben's desire to play Champions League football this season means he will politely decline a move.
"With all the respect in the world, I have decided not to join Tottenham," said Robben in The Sun.
"For the moment I want to fight for my place at Real Madrid and want to focus all my attentions on my preparations.
"I hope to achieve a lot with Real Madrid this season. The only thing I would consider is a move to another club in the Champions League."
